Victor Thomas

Victor Larue Thomas, a native Texan and the youngest of a family of 15 was wrongly accused of aggravated sexual assault, aggravated robbery, and aggravated kidnapping of a convenience store clerk in 1985 while visiting his Mother in Waxahachie Texas.

Victor had never met his accuser, but was convicted in June 1986 on all three counts and sentenced to two (2) life sentences plus 20 years. He was imprisoned at the Coffield Unit near Palestine at one point not even venturing outside into sunlight and fresh air for more than 9 years. While assigned to Coffield, he was a cook, preparing 9,000 meals per day and never gave up hope or stopped fighting for his freedom and innocence.

Victor spent his few hours away from the kitchen in the prison library and was accused of writing a letter to everyone with a P.O. Box while he was incarcerated. After visits by ministers he received a letter from his mother in 2000 and she told him that after all the letters he had written he should just give it up to Jesus.
He leaned on the teachings of his ministers . Victor’s faith, prayers, and humility were answered in 2001.

State District Judge Gene Kinze read one of Victor’s letters. Judge Kinze forwarded his letter to the District Attorney’s office who assigned Assistant District Attorney Cindy Hellstern to investigate and she visited Victor and later the victim and through DNA evidence he was exonerated of all charges.

After 15 years behind bars for crimes he was accused of committing against a woman he had never met Victor was freed in 2001. Free of bitterness or anger Victor proudly proclaims that today he works for the Lord and all Glory is to God for his life.
